Having never written, produced or directed a film before, Scott Elliott and Sid Sadowskyj’s true story of triumph against adversity is brought to the silver screen in March 2018.
Going on to raise £1 million to fund their debut film, Scott and Sid navigated the distance from dream to reality, never letting themselves succumb to an ordinary path through life. A tale about friendship and coming-of-age, the film offers an insight into the pairs’ dreamchaser philosophy and inspires their audience to be more than normal. Chasing their dreams comes at a cost, but one meeting could change their lives.
To celebrate the release of Scott and Sid, I spoke to co-creator Scott Elliot about what it has taken to bring his dreams to reality and to discuss Scott and Sid: The Filmmakers’ App that offers users an affordable, self-study approach to filmmaking, with 1000s of videos on what’s needed to finance, produce and successfully release a film.
What made you decide to get into film-making?
Since being a kid, I have been obsessed with film. I loved the way it made me feel, and always wanted to emulate that for others.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
You know every week something happens that becomes the new highlight but one of my favourite moments was working on a film in NZ. Sid and I were scouting in a chopper, hanging out the doors of the chopper flying around for 12 weeks.
Tell us more about Scott and Sid. What can audiences expect?
They can expect a rollercoaster on their emotions, it starts off fast, so they have to jump on board early or get left behind.
Do you have any memorable stories from your career so far?
We once got an investor to send up a plane for us. I was so scared of flying, I drank a lot of vodka so much, that I slept through the whole flight missed the meeting and woke up on the flight back.
What type of response to Scott & Sid has there been?
The response has been epic! We have done a lot of screenings so a couple of thousand have seen the film so far.
One we ask everyone, what’s your favourite film?
My favourite film is Forrest Gump.
What’s your favourite cinema snack?
The app sounds fascinating. How did the idea come about?
We didn’t know anything about the tax or legal side of filmmaking and there wasn’t much out there so we thought we would put down on video things we would want to know, then decided to put it into an app.
What advice could you give to young people who are wanting to break into the film industry?
Its f**king hard!! Work harder, get up earlier and be smarter!
We wish Scott and Sid all the best in their venture and appreciate Scott taking time out of his busy schedule to talk to Movie Metropolis.
