Exclusive: Interview with Courtney J. Clark

Courtney James Clark interviewForeword by Adam Brannon: We’re rounding out 2018 with a monster-sized interview. For those who have been living under a rock for the majority of the last twelve months, 2018 signals the 25th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic, Jurassic Park.

The influence this film had on cinema post-release is something truly special. It revolutionised special effects on the big screen and brought realistic CGI and animatronic dinosaurs into Hollywood for the very first time.

To celebrate, and in our final post of 2018, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jurassic World’s Courtney James Clark, who most of you will recognise as the park’s Mosasaur  keeper. I spoke to her about her time working on the film and her career in general.

What made you want to get into acting?

I always enjoyed studying people and what makes them act the way the do. That’s the “deep” answer. The more fun one is I love making people smile and to act in film and TV is the adult way to play pretend. haha

You fed the mighty Mosa, but if you could have taken care of any of the other animals in the park, what would they be?

I’ve always had a soft spot for a brontosaurus. Maybe it was The Land Before Time but they seemed so king and gentle.

Courtney Clark at the Jurassic World premiereTell us about the process of that scene. How was it put together?

It was amazing! They built a large portion of the stadium and had ton of awesome extras that helped create the vibe. We had water machines to help the Mosasaur come alive. To see it on screen was honestly breath taking and so cool!

What do you think happened to your character after the Indominus wreaked havoc?

I think she made it out! I think the Mosasaur helped her out. Plus working there for so long I’m sure she knew the emergency exits 🙂

Do you have any funny stories from your time on the set of JW?

The energy onset was pure magic! Everyone was so excited to make this project! We were all excited to be there and act like little kids! Also getting to tour the Raptor Ring was pretty epic!

Did you get to keep anything to remember your time on set?

I was sent some pretty awesome swag that I still have and a Mosasaur tooth.

What did you make of this year’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom?

I think its fun to ride this journey and see where they are taking everything. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

One we ask everyone: what’s your favourite film?

Ghost with Patrick Swayze. I CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Another we ask everyone: what’s your favourite cinema snack?

Popcorn with Peanut Butter M&M’s sprinkled in. The perfect combo of salty and sweet.

What does the future hold for your career? Do you have any exciting projects lined up?

I don’t know! That’s what is so exciting. I never know where I’ll get to go or who I’ll get to be. It has been pretty busy lately and I am grateful for that. I have a feeling it’s about to get reallllly good 🙂

Do you have any advice for budding actors trying to get into the industry?

Have fun. Work Hard. Get into a class. Surround yourself with people that challenge you to be better and learn from them.
