Movie Metropolis was born from my love of writing and my passion for the art of film-making. Six years ago today (October 19th) the site was set up by myself in an effort to channel my reviewing tendencies into something a little more concrete.
Over half a decade later, the website has grown at an astonishing rate, attracting thousands of visitors from across the globe and connecting them through their love of cinema.
In 2016, Movie Metropolis launched MM Play, a dedicated YouTube channel aimed at providing fun and engaging multi-platform content, moving away from the usual reviews that have formed the backbone of the the site’s online presence.
Here, as a birthday special, I look through the five articles that have been viewed more times than any other posts on the site.
#5) MM Top 5: Best Movie Cars
A cracking article to start off with. The Best Movie Cars was published in May 2013 and received some really positive feedback from readers. Only the seventh post to feature in the popular MM Top 5 series, it looked through the most iconic vehicles throughout all of cinema.
#4) MM Top 5: Harry Potter Films
It had to be in here somewhere. Published at the end of April 2013, the top five Harry Potter films has proved that the wizarding franchise remains popular to this very day, still placing towards the top of the 2014, 2015 and this year’s post rankings. Take a look and see if you agree with the films that were chosen.
#3) Focus review
A bit of an odd one to take the bronze medal but Will Smith certainly has pulling power when it comes to getting audiences to watch his films and he remains one of the most charismatic actors working in the industry. Focus may not be a classic piece of Smith cinema, but its review has proved immensely popular on Movie Metropolis since its publication in March 2015.
#2) Interview with Colby Boothman
A favourite of mine since it was uploaded in July last year, the interview with Colby Boothman marked a turning point for the site as it began to be recognised by actors themselves, rather than just the fans of their films. Colby, who starred in 2015’s second biggest film, Jurassic World, was a pleasure to speak to on the phone and shared a fascinating insight into the filming process behind the blockbuster.
#1) Spectre review
Rob, congratulations. Your review of Spectre has become the most-read article in Movie Metropolis history amassing over 500 views in less than 24 hours – no mean feat in the world of ad-free blogging. The James Bond sequel was incredibly popular at the box-office and proved the same here after its publication at the end of October last year.
So, there we have it – the top 5 article on Movie Metropolis since its inception in 2010. Check them out and leave a comment on what your favourites are – all messages are replied to personally by myself.
Here’s to the next six years!
