In January, the readers of Movie Metropolis were asked to take part in the second annual Alternative Oscars. With films not recognised by the Academy Awards from the last twelve months, including Deepwater Horizon and The Jungle Book, this year’s selection of films faced tough competition.
As a new feature, you can now see how the winners and runners up performed. Each of the top three has their voting performances, displayed as percentages, attached alongside their names.
Nearly 350 votes were cast, so, without further ado, let’s take a look at this year’s winners!

Analysis: Well, that’s it for another year and with nearly 350 votes counted, the Movie Metropolis Alternative Oscars have once again proved incredibly successful. It’s been a great showing for Disney who scooped 5 of the 8 awards on offer with The Jungle Book taking away four awards and Felicity Jones taking it home for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Biggest shock? That has to be Dan Fogler’s win for Best Supporting Actor. After following the voting patterns over the last few weeks, he came out of nowhere to scoop the accolade.
Many thanks for taking the time to vote and to read. The Alternative Oscars will be back next year, honouring the films everyone goes to see at the cinema.
Definitely think Jungle Book is a worthy winner!
