The Best Films of 2017: Star Wars, Kingsman & More

Film in 2017It feels like five minutes ago that I was airing my thoughts via podcast, declaring 2016 to be a fantastic year in film. A lot has changed on Movie Metropolis since then and for film, 2017 has been a mixed bag, with the latter half of the year throwing up some absolutely incredible moments in cinema.

Naturally, it’s impossible to put all the greats and not-so-greats within this article, but I’ve picked those that stood out to me for bringing something different to the table.

To celebrate such a varied 12 months, I’ve put together a list of the very best, and very worst films of the year. Thor: Ragnarok review “Utterly preposterous”

Thor Ragnarok posterThor is arguably one of Marvel’s strongest characters. Played by the superb Chris Hemsworth since 2011, the God of thunder is one of the MCUs most popular assets.

It’s unfortunate then that he’s been lambasted with the weakest solo films of the entire series, the son of Odin really has deserved much better.

Thor’s inception in the first of his three solo outings was a competent if unremarkable origins story and the less said about Thor: The Dark World, which remains the poorest film of the entire MCU, the better. Now, just in time for Infinity War,Thor: Ragnarok rolls into cinemas. But does it do its leading man justice? Continue reading
