“Lovely in every sense of the word” Pete’s Dragon review

10933939_858255040882983_331142605952023910_n2016 really does belong to Disney. The House of Mouse has been churning out some incredible films this year with the live-action remake of The Jungle Book proving sceptical audiences (and critics) completely wrong.

The BFG was a pleasant and inoffensive adaptation of Roald Dahl’s wonderful novel and Finding Dory got Pixar back on the right track, and let’s not forget Captain America: Civil War, by far the best superhero film of the year.

Here, Disney continues its trend with recreating its classic cartoons in live-action; resurrecting Pete’s Dragon. But is this remake of the 1977 film of the same name as good as The Jungle Book? Continue reading

“It could’ve gone so wrong” The Peanuts Movie review

Despite being the most talented movie reviewer of our generation, I walked into The Peanuts Movie having no clue as to how it would fare. On the one hand, Blue Sky Studios haven’t made a film that was any better than mediocre since Ice Age, and if there’s one intellectual property that doesn’t need Hollywood’s “Simplify everything and stamp out all emotion” attitude towards kid’s movies, it’s Peanuts. But on the other hand… it’s Peanuts. Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip is one of the most sincere and darkly hilarious things ever created. Surely, Hollywood couldn’t ruin that, right?
