Kathleen Kennedy not producing Jurassic Park 4

Producer Kathleen Kennedy will not return to the Jurassic Park franchise when the new film is released next year.

Kennedy, who produced all three of the previous films in the blockbuster series will instead focus on the new Star Wars movie, it has been announced.

“No,” said Frank Marshall, Kennedy’s husband and producing partner when asked about her involvement on Twitter.

“Ms Kennedy has moved onto Star Wars and will not be producing JP4. She’s traded raptors for TIE fighters.”

Kennedy currently serves as co-chairman of Lucasfilm and is a close friend of Steven Spielberg.
Jurassic Park 4 will see Spielberg return as a producer, with a director yet to be confirmed, there were numerous rumours that JJ Abrams would direct, but his involvement in Star Wars: Episode VII has effectively ruled him out.

The film will be shot in 3D and is scheduled for release on June 13, 2014.

Jurassic Park 3D will see the original movie return to cinemas on April 5.

Jurassic Park 4 release date announced!

Exciting news for Jurassic Park fans or just those interested in dinosaurs; Jurassic Park 4 has officially been announced and will be released on June 13, 2014.

Universal Pictures has confirmed the date for the Steven Spielberg-produced movie, while Deadline reports that the film will be shot in a 3D format, though it hasn’t been discussed whether or not this will be a post-conversion effort like that seen in the final Harry Potter film.

The latest instalment in the dinosaur series was first announced by the Oscar-winning director at Comic-Con in 2011. It was later revealed to be hitting cinemas sometime before the end of 2014, though no official announcements regarding a release date had been made.

Discussing Jurassic Park 4 last year, producer and long-time fan of the franchise, Kathleen Kennedy said: “As filmmakers, we often sit there going, ‘Okay. We have to answer the question: Why do another one?’ If you can’t answer that question, you shouldn’t be doing it.

“It’s tough. We’re trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn’t going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We’ve got to start with a script and the story.”

The original film, released back in 1993 was based on the late Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel.

The movie earned more than $900 million at the worldwide box office and won Oscars for ‘Best Sound Effects Editing’, ‘Best Sound’ and ‘Best Visual Effects’. It spawned two sequels, The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 and whilst they were unable to compare to the original, they became two of the highest-grossing films in their release years of 1997 and 2001 respectively.

To wet your appetites for the release of Jurassic Park 4, Universal Pictures announced last year that they will be re-releasing the original in 3D and IMAX 3D on April 5 this year, to mark the films 20th anniversary.

Jurassic Park 4: In cinemas 2014

Jurassic Park 4 is expected hit screens across the globe within the next two years, it has been announced.

The sequel in the long runnning franchise has been in development hell since it was announced months after the release of JP3 back in 2001.

Producer Frank Marshall, who has been working alongside original director Steven Spielberg for over 30 years announced the news as an update for long suffering fans.

Marshall told Collider “I would say that it will be on screen within the next two years.”

Spielberg has previously stated his excitement on producing the new film, especially considering the leaps technology has taken in the last decade.

“That’s what’s gonna be great about it, technology’s taken a leap now that we can really do some great things,” the director said.

In June, it was announced that Rise of the Planet of the Apes script writers were now part of the production team for JP4.
