It’s been a frantic few hours of non-stop voting as you all decided which “Blockbuster” deserves to be crowned the most anticipated of the remainder of 2013. The poll has now closed and the results have been counted; thanks to all of you who cast a vote.
We’ll start with the films that received 0% of the vote and therefore came in joint last place:
- Monsters University
- Thor: The Dark World
- Walking with Dinosaurs
- World War Z
- Man of Steel
- After Earth
- 300: Rise of an Empire
The above films claimed no votes in yesterday’s poll which for a few is somewhat of a surprise. I fully expected to be counting votes for Man of Steel and to some extent Monsters University. Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise is released later this year and promises to be a huge summer blockbuster, but for one reason or another, you decided it was unworthy of your deciding vote.
Moving on, in 4th place, and with 6% of the vote each are the following films:
- Iron Man 3
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- Despicable Me 2
- Star Trek: Into Darkness
The above films each received a small amount of votes. In this section we have some of the biggest (predicted) films of the year, the next chapter of The Hobbit promises to be a big draw for audiences in December, but the lacklustre first film may have overshadowed the hype surrounding its sequel.
In 3rd place, receiving 12% of the vote is The Wolverine. The follow-up to the disappointing X-Men Origins: Wolverine looks set to be a huge smash this year, but after its poor predecessor, I predicted a much lower ranking in yesterday’s poll.
In joint 2nd place, Jurassic Park 3D and The Great Gatsby, which both commanded an equal share of the votes. Jurassic Park 3D has already been released in America to huge success, taking over $19 million dollars at the US box office, with analysts predicting it will push the 1993 classic over the $1 billion mark. Baz Luhrman’s take on the classic starring Leonardo DiCaprio is released in May and should prove a huge success, if the voting here aligns with box-office performance.
And finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. In 1st place, receiving a whopping 47% of the vote is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I doubt anyone could have predicted just how popular the first film was when it was released last year and it exceeded expectations. The sequel, which is set to be shown in cinemas worldwide in November, promises to be even better with a new director and an arguably better book as its base.
As a treat, why not watch the Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer below and whet your appetite for what should be the biggest film of 2013.
Thanks for voting!
